Eugene/Springfield Area Information

Eugene's mild climate may be one of the area's first attractions to the ever-growing population of 140,000 citizens. The average temperature is 53 degrees with mild winters and normal annual rainfall of 43 inches. 

Located less than two hours  from the coast or the mountains, the Eugene/Springfield area is close to many natural wonders. Eugene is nestled in the Willamette Valley and covers nearly 36 miles with the Willamette River running through the heart of the city and the McKenzie River joining the Willamette to the north. 

Eugene features an abundance of recreation activities including 49 city parks and access to rafting, fishing, and canoeing. The city is known for its bicycle-friendly atmosphere. Residents appreciate the 300 miles of bicycle paths and more than 25 miles of off-street cycling. We are also the track and field capitol of the world.

The City of Eugene is home to the University of Oregon, Northwest Christian College, Lane Community College, and Eugene Bible College. According to the Eugene area Chamber of Commerce, one-third of the city's population has completed four or more years of college. 

Oregon's second largest city, Eugene features an impressive array of recreational opportunities and cultural offerings. It's no wonder the area is called the Emerald Valley.

Schools

The Eugene/Springfield area has three public school districts and at least 15 private schools. Oregon's students rated highest among the 23 states where at least 40% of the high school graduates took the Scholastic Aptitude Test in 1991.
